a reunion

this is a panel of the next cartoon. it correlates with an in-real-life event that’s going on. over the summer, i studied bookbinding and printmaking in italy. tonight is an art show with our work. more importantly, it’s a reunion of sorts of all the kids who went on the trip. needless to say, i’m excited. and also, drawing violet again was super fun.

originally, the above illustration was going to be for a valentines day card i was going to send out to some folks. i didn’t quite like it enough to commit it to print, but i like it enough to add to chunky puddles. because, i mean really, we all need swarthy snuggle bears in our life.

i didn’t end up liking it for a valentines card for fairly obvious reasons: it doesn’t read as a valentines day card. this occurred to me when a friend of mine showed me the assignments his class did for the same kind of idea (designing and illustrating a valentines day card.)

i fold easily under peer pressure, apparently.
